As the New Year approaches and 2018 is coming to a rapid close, now is a perfect time to reflect on our successes of the past, embrace our present situation, and anticipate an exciting future for MIAT College of Technology. Our MIAT faculty and staff are thankful for where we have been, enjoying where we are, and continuing to create new programs and opportunities for our students and graduates.

MIAT College of Technology will celebrate its 50-year anniversary in 2019.  We have more than 10,000 graduates of all ages, and we have equipped workplace-ready men and women for employers in a wide range of industries all over the world – aviation, manufacturing, power generation, oil and gas heating, cooling, refrigeration, and many others. During our 50th Anniversary year, watch for profiles on our alumni, faculty, staff, and employers who have contributed to our amazing history. We want to highlight those who have helped make MIAT the viable career college it is today.

At a time when many other career colleges are experiencing declines in student population, we are in the fortunate position to be enjoying a trend toward increased enrollment. Enrollment at our Canton campus is up over the same period as last year.

During 2018, we launched new programs at both campuses– the Electro-Mechanical Technology Program in Canton and the Welding Technology Program in Houston. We continue to expand our recruiting efforts with high school students, military veterans, and other adults seeking additional training and education to support their life and career goals. We hosted hundreds of high school students at our campus several times this year, and we held a career fair for our students making connections with nearly 50 employers. We also have been actively involved in charitable events such as Hoops for Troops hosted by the Detroit Pistons Relay for Life and Operation Good Cheer.

New Year, New Plans, New Goals

This has been a truly great year, with a large measure of gratitude due to a dedicated and highly qualified team of administrators, support staff, instructors, career advisors, financial aid advisors, and high school representatives along with students, alumni and employers who have contributed to our growth. My hope and my expectation are that 2019 will be another great year, if not even better than this year.

As always, MIAT extends an open invitation for potential students, employer partners, and community leaders, to tour our campus. To arrange a tour please call 1-800-447-1310 To access information about our college, please visit miat.edu.

I wish you, your family, and friends a safe and enjoyable holiday season. Thank you for your support — past, present and future!
