Aviation Maintenance Technician

Three Questions to Ask Before Training to Become an Aviation Maintenance Technician

If you’re mechanically inclined, intuitive and have a passion for aircraft, MIAT’s Airframe and Powerplant Technician program may be exactly what you’re looking for. But before making a big life decision, it’s a good idea to conduct a bit of research. Take a look at the questions listed below and read about this exciting field. We’ll help you gather a little more insight into a career as an Aviation Maintenance Technician!

Is aviation maintenance a good career to pursue?

For those both mechanically and logically minded, aviation maintenance can be quite a rewarding career. You’ll be joining one of the largest industries in the world, with job opportunities available all over the globe.

While the field itself may not grow as quickly as some, jobs are expected to open up at a modest rate throughout the next several years. More and more aircraft mechanics are expected to retire in the coming years, making room for entry-level workers.

Do I need a license or certification?

Most entry-level maintenance jobs are going to require that you hold Federal Aviation Administration Certification in Airframe and Powerplant Technology. By completing the program through MIAT, you’ll develop the advanced skills necessary to become certified. And once you pass, you’ll have all the tools needed to begin a successful career in aviation maintenance.

Will I make a lot of money?

Like most jobs out there, the amount of money you make will be determined by your experience and skill set. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2012-13 Edition, Aircraft Mechanics’ annual pay ranged from $33,630 to $72,250 in 2010. Depending on your location, certification level and work schedule, your pay could vary greatly.  But with an MIAT education and solid work ethic, you’ll be in good position to dictate the future of your career.

Like what you see? If you haven’t yet enrolled in the Airframe and Powerplant Technician program at MIAT, there’s no better time than now to start. If you are already a student, keep working hard and making us proud!
