TOLEDO, OH--The Michigan Institute of Aviation and Technology (MIAT) earned recognition from the State of Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) for their assistance to U.S. Armed Forces Veterans as part of November's Hire A Veteran Month program.

MIAT was the major sponsor for the agency's Third Annual Veterans Job Fair and related Workshop, presented by Veterans Representatives from ODJFS.

Ms. Bobbie Headley, ODJFS Veterans Representative, presented the awards during the job fair on November 19 in Toledo, Ohio. Kevin Burchett, MIAT Campus Director, was on hand to accept a certificate of appreciation for the technical career school, and a plaque from Ohio Governor Ted Strickland for Charles Hawes, MIAT President.

Ms. Headley also presented a certificate of appreciation to Bob DeVoe, MIAT Veterans Representative, for his help providing services for Veterans during Job Fair events and throughout the year.

According to Hawes, MIAT has an established reputation for service to Veterans. The school was recently recognized by the American Legion as an Employer of Veterans, and was named to the 2010 Top 50 Military Friendly Schools by GI Jobs Magazine.

"Many of our instructors began their careers in the Armed Services. They bring a high level of technical expertise and discipline to the classroom", said Hawes.

"We also find that students who enroll with us after military service have particularly high placement rates upon graduation. Military veterans are often preferred hires for many of the employers who recruit through our career services department", Hawes stated.
